The Captain is an elderly stocky man with a full beard and an integrated moustache. His nose is red, most likely caused by the excessive consumption of alcohol. He always wears a white captain hat and a jacket with a ship's wheel symbol on the back. When not drinking, he is usually seen smoking a pipe.

287th Hunter Exam arcEdit

The Captain and his ship have been hired to cut down weak Hunter applicants for a fairly long period. This time, after getting off from Whale Island, his ship meets with a storm during the night. The next morning, seeing that most of the applicants have been badly stricken by seasickness he thinks they are a bunch of weaklings. However he changes his mind when he sees Gon, Kurapika and Leorio, who show no sign of tiredness. Gon tells him that a bigger storm is coming in 2 or 3 hours. Seeing that Gon can read signs of the ocean and the wind and understand the language of the gulls, the Captain asks him a few questions and knows he is the son of Ging, who also boarded his ship at some time in the past.

After the other applicants have taken rescue boats to a nearby island, he asks the trio their names and reasons for wanting to become Hunters. Gon says he wants to learn about his father's work but Kurapika and Leorio refuse to answer until he reveals himself to be an examiner. Kurapika then replies he wants to capture the Phantom Troupe, who massacred all the other people in his Kurta clan 4 years before. Leorio on the other hand says he only wants to have a lot of money. The 2 have an argument over their causes and they decide to end it with a fight out on the deck. Just before the fight can start, Katzo, a crewman, is knocked off the deck by a broken piece of wood. Luckily he is saved at the last moment thanks to a combined effort of Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio. After that Kurapika and Leorio make up with each other.

Pleased by the trio's behaviors, the Captain decides to take them to the harbor closest to the testing site, Dolle Harbor. At the harbor, he tells Gon to head for a tree on top of a nearby mountain to get to the exam site quicker. After the boy thanks him and leaves, he commends Ging for having a good son.
